Volvo and Dahlgren want more of WTCC
Volvo made their World Touring Car Championship debut with the new Volvo C30 at Brands Hatch during the past weekend. Robert Dahlgren was behind the wheel and qualified tenth for the first race of which he retired after contact with his fellow Swede Rickard Rydell.
“We came to start with a fantastic car, never before during the season has the race settings been this good and the engine was fantastic,” said Dahlgren.
Dahlgren had a fight with James Thompson, Honda, before the incident with SEAT-man Rydell which resulted in a retirement for Dahlgren and no start in the second race.
“I started from tenth position and I had a hard but fair fight with James Thompson. I was able to pass him before Paddock Hill, but he retook the place and we fought side by side up to Druids when I was pushed off by Rickard Rydell,” said Dahlgren.
Dahlgren was upset over the incident and wanted revenge on Rydell. The team has got plans to join the WTCC race at Monza.
“The incident was fairly unnecessary I have to say. I’ll see you next time Rydell. The team was unfortunately not able to fix the car in time for race to. But I am happy with the weekend all together and we could show that the Volvo C30 is quick also in international comparison,” said Dahlgren.

Derek Crabb, Motorsport Director of Volvo Car Corporation, was present during the race. The WTCC has announced that they will introduce biofuel next year, something that interests Volvo.
“We definitely want to expand our brand across racing and demonstrate how competitive we can be in top level series. So, yes we are interested, as long as the series goes green and we don’t get penalised. We have learnt how to use this fuel and so we can help others to do so if they help us into the series. If we, and the whole series can go green together then credits go to both of us,” said Crabb.
