Volvo team manager talks about WTCC-plans

The Swedish Volvo team Polestar Racing made their second World Touring Car Championship appearance at Brands Hatch last month. Speculations have been made that the team is leaving the Swedish Touring Car Championship for WTCC – something that the team manager Christian Dahl says is not true.
“I find that highly unlikely. It is the Swedish sales company that pays for STCC and they have all marketing activities bound to the home market,” said Dahl to STCC.se.

“If we were to enter the WTCC it would be with a setup similar to the one BMW has got with a central development which would be financed by Volvo internationally. But in that case I still think Volvo would like to run one car in the Swedish championship.”

Polestar Racing will attend one more race in the WTCC this year – Monza. The team will most likely run two cars then for Robert Dahlgren and Tommy Rustad.

Even though there are no concrete plans for a Volvo WTCC-program, team manager Dahl says that the ambition is there for it.

“Both Polestar Racing and Volvo have got that ambition, but there is no agenda with an active goal. Of course if we produce good results, there is interest from other markets and we can find good financial solutions – it could be reality. But if feels distant right now, right now our focus is first and fir most to end the current STCC-season in the best possible way,” said Dahl.
