Tielemans likely to stay with Wiechers

At the British round of the World Touring Car Championship they were absent due to financial problems, but at their home race in Oschersleben they were there with two cars. Their regular driver Olivier Tielemans was joined by fellow Dutchman Duncan Huisman. The squad made sure they showed there full potential, despite the problems that still surround the team.

In the first race Olivier Tielemans finished in a strong 13th position, after battling with works drivers Alessandro Zanardi and Yvan Muller. Only after the race he was demoted 10 places because of his contact with James Thompson, eventhough the Englishman stated that Tielemans was not to blame.

The second race saw Duncan Huisman driving in seventh place after the start. Eventually he dropped back a few spots to tenth, but that still gave him second place on the Independents podium.

Dominik Greiner, team manager at Wiechers, was happy with the strong result. “We’ve seen two strong races from our drivers. It was what we expected and it is good to see such results”, Greiner said. “We’ll probably continue with Olivier. I’m very confident about that. For Duncan we’re trying to work something out, but it probably was a one time only. Apart from that we’re already working on our programm for next year.”

Duncan Huisman can be happy with his return to the WTCC. Avoiding the first corner incident in race 2 was the basis of a good result. “Yeah, it was good”, a happy Huisman said afterwards. “I started from 16th and I had a good start, I overtook 5 or 6 drivers before turn 1. Then there was the big crash in turn 2 and I came out in 7th position. Augusto pushed very hard behind me and he was better on the brakes.”

“I was quite happy with the fight with Stefano D’Aste. He made a mistake at turn two and I could overtake him. Then he drove into me and the suspension damaged. Andy could overtook me at the backstraight after a small mistake but as soon he was in front of me he wasn’t much faster anymore. The speed was very good and the laptimes as well.”

“It is a shame I had to come from 16th. The last time I sat in the car was in Macau. Despite that my laptimes were better then the times from Porteiro, so I’m happy. If I get another chance and we do a test before the race we can have a better qualifying, which is very important in WTCC. Then we can fight for the points.”

“We need time and there are still two weeks to Imola to find money. If I would have a day of testing I would back!! The team is very good. They have built a good car for such a small team. I enjoyed racing for Wiechers.”
