Subaru to do both WRC and WTCC?
Subaru could be the next manufacturer to enter the FIA World Touring Car Championship. According to Motorsport Aktuell the Japanese manufacturer is planning to do both the FIA World Rally Championship and WTCC. As we have reported earlier the WTCC and WRC are seemingly heading for the same set of rules, with small exceptions.
The rally program for Subaru is limping at the moment. Their drivers Chris Atkinson and Peter Solberg are yet to score a win so far this year and are currently fourth and sixth respectively in the championship.
Previously engagement in the rally championships have excluded engagement in the touring car championships. Ford introduced the Focus in the ETCC, but that program came to a halt due to their rally program needing more focus and money.
But when the WTCC and WRC are heading for new joint rules, things will be different. And Subaru can become the first example of this.
According to Motorsport Aktuell representatives from Subaru will visit the WTCC in Japan to evaluate the possibilities.
