Farfus on top in first free practise

BMW-driver Augusto Farfus has set the fastest lap time in the first free practise session at Monza. He was just 0.069s quicker than SEAT-driver Jordi Gene. On a dry track, it was Alessandro Zanardi who showed that the long straights and fast corners suite his driving as well, just like in Brno, as he finished in third.

Despite Yvan Muller’s penalty weight, the French title contender was not far of the pace. He was over half a second slower than Farfus, but still finished the session in fourth. His main title rival and team mate Gabriele Tarquini, recovered from his big accident at Imola, finished the session just behind Muller in fifth.

The second practise session will start at 11:15 CET. Qualifying is scheduled to start at 15:00 CET.
