Tarquini confirms SEAT-domination at Monza
Gabriele Tarquini completed the World Touring Car Championship race weekend at Monza for SEAT by taking the second win of the day. The Italian charged his way through the field from seventh on the grid to win by 0.316 seconds ahead of his team mate Jordi Gené. Third was Chevrolet-man Nicola Larini, 0.646 seconds behind.
Alessandro Zanardi held pole position and kept the lead for the first few laps. But the BMW-man was unable to respond to the pace of the cars behind him and fell down to finish seventh.
The race was close all through the field and claimed a couple of victims. Rob Huff initially fought for the top spots. But in the later stage of the race his race was ended after sustaining damage from his fight with Jörg Müller and Felix Porteiro.
Reigning world champion Andy Priaulx also had to retire from the race. It was on the penultimate lap that technical problems with his car forced the Brit to park.
Yvan Muller claimed fourth place only just ahead of Chevrolet’s Alain Menu. Tiago Monteiro headed Zanardi for seventh while Augusto Farfus finished eight and Rickard Rydell ninth. Jörg Müller rounded out top ten ahead of James Thompson.
