Will BMW pull out of WTCC?

Things are shaky for BMW in the World Touring Car Championship at the moment. BMW Motorsport-boss Mario Theissen feels that there are a number of changes needed for the new rules.
“There are three different points. How are the new rules going to be? How are the rules going to be controlled? And how will the plan for marketing be made,” said Theissen to Motorsport Aktuell.

The diesel rules for the SEAT Leon is still an issue according to Theissen.
“The boost pressure is still unknown, we must change that! We voted for a boost pressure regulation, but the FIA did not agree. We still have a car (the SEAT) which you cannot overtake,” said Theissen.

While voices have been raised that the new rules should make all manufacturers go the same way with for example only petrol turbo engines, only rear wheel drive and more, Thiessen thinks otherwise.
“It is important for the manufacturers to be competitive with their own concepts,” said Theissen.

Speculations have been going on for almost a year that BMW would introduce a diesel, something that Thiessen does not want to do.
“We do not want to run the diesel, that would kill the WTCC! Currently our diesel engine is a good base, but we have no development of it at the moment,” said Theissen.

While Thiessen is reluctant to introduce the diesel, he has no doubt that if they introduce it, they would dominate with it.
“We could run the diesel and dominate WTCC for the next two or three years, but that would not be nice,” said Theissen.

BMW are reported to recently have had a meeting in which the future of their WTCC-program was decided. It is known that BMW, with the Schnitzer-team, are working hard on the new BMW M3 for ALMS. It remains to be seen if that, combined with the unhappiness of the current regulations, makes BMW pull out of WTCC.
