Japanese S2000-series to be formed?
According to our information there is a big interest in Japan to start a national S2000-championship. A large number of representatives from the major Japanese car manufacturers were present during the FIA World Touring Car Championship race at Okayama in Japan last weekend. The rumor is that they are looking on a co-operation to start a S2000-championship in Japan.
According to our reports representatives from the following manufacturers were present during the WTCC-race to, among other things, meet with the WTCC-organisation:
Honda – Yaushiro Wada (motorsport director)
Mazda – Shoichi Kamimura (development director)
Nismo/Nissan – Yuichi Sanda (president)
Subaru – Yoshi Hasunuma (marketing director) and Naoto Muto (development director)
Toyota – Michelle Adreani (Toyota FIA-representative)
Currently Japan does not have a proper touring car series and the manufactures mentioned above are rumored to be working together to form a national S2000-series.
1997 was the last time Japan had a proper touring car series, under Super Touring-rules. Osamu Nakako stood champion that year, driving a Honda Accord.
