BMW confirms 2009 program

BMW have confirmed their participation in the FIA World Touring Car Championship 2009. The announcement was made during the yearly Sport Pokal-party.
“Touring cars have traditionally been very important to BMW,” said BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen.

Rumors were going previously that BMW were considering to leave the WTCC after the 2008 season. But the recent rule changes for the series have pleased BMW.

“I am pleased that a compromise was reached regarding the 2009 rules. This balances out the different engine concepts and should allow for fair and even competition between the manufacturers. We are absolutely determined to be back at the top of the WTCC at the 2009 season finale in Macau,” said Theissen.

The driver line up has not yet been announced. But according to our information it will most likely be quite similar to the current one, with questionmarks for one or two drivers.

“We shall announce our team and driver line up later,” said Theissen.
