New F1-style qualifying system for 2009
The FIA World Touring Car Championship will change the qualifying system for next year. The new system will be very similar to the one used in Formula One. A 30 minute session will be split in to two parts: Q1 and Q2. All drivers will take part in Q1 while only the ten fastest drivers of Q1 will take part in Q2.
Q2 will last for ten minutes and start five minutes after Q1. The grid positions from 11th place and down will be decided by the lap times of Q1.
This system will decide the grid for the first race. The second race will still use a reversed grid system with top eight of race one reversed and the other drivers in their finishing position.
