Porteiro scores first Independents point
In the Independents category, it was Felix Porteiro who claimed the pole position and therefore collected the first point available for the privateers: the Spaniard almost made it to the top ten and constantly gave the feeling he was in the position to score a stunning result by getting to Q2, which he narrowly missed.
Porteiro is confident about scoring at least a point tomorrow, and feels it could be possible to start Race 2 from pole: “I’m really happy. Today I was consistently among the top-ten, or close to them, which is a good result when we consider that I had no drive two weeks ago and that I only tested for three laps before coming here.”
“Tomorrow I will be aiming for eighth position in Race 1, which means pole position in Race 2. I think is possible.”
The guy who is considered as his main rival in the Independents’ Trophy, Tom Coronel, was slowed down by software problems, which led him to an unexpected 5th place in the Independents and 18th overall: “It didn’t go to well, because I had problems with the cut-off with shifting.”
