Farfus takes first BMW pole of 2009
Augusto Farfus Jr has secured the first pole position for BMW in the FIA World Touring Car Championship 2009. Farfus took the pole with a thin margin to his team mate Andy Priaulx, only 0.045 seconds separated the both. Best SEAT-man was Gabriele Tarquini, very close to Priaulx. The Italan was 0.066 seconds behind Priaulx.
Tarquini headed four SEAT cars. Rickard Rydell, who topped the two final practice sessions, was fourth fastest. His best time was 0.192 seconds behind the pole time.
Reigning champion Yvan Muller claimed fifth ahead of Tiago Monteiro in sixth, making it four SEAT’s in the top six places.
Jörg Müller was seventh fastest ahead of lead independent driver Félix Porteiro in eight.
Jordi Gené, SEAT, and Sergio Hernandez, BMW, rounded out top ten.
George Tanev has been disqualified after the stewards found his car being too light in the inspection after the qualifying session. Tanev will start last due to this.
