Farfus: “I never expected to be on pole”

Despite BMW announcing before the race that they were far from favorites, the qualifying for the second FIA World Touring Car Championship race saw two BMW’s on top. Pole man Augusto Farfus points out that he never expected to be on pole.
“We have also worked hard to find the best set up, but I never expected to find myself on pole,” said Farfus.

Farfus believes that the improved track surfaces compared to last year has helped them a lot.

“The track has improved a lot compared to the previous years and this has helped us a lot. My aim was to make the Q2. Although we have the front row, we know that will be tough in the races,” said Farfus.

Team mate and triple world champion Andy Priaulx was close to Farfus in second, only 0.045 separated the both.

“Today the BMW cars were quicker. I tried hard to beat them. I made a small mistake during my last qualifying attempt. It cost me something, but I don’t think that it was worth the pole,” said Priaulx.

Just as Tarquini stated, Priaulx feels that it is all about the rolling start in the first race.

“I will try to take advantage of the rolling start tomorrow, but if I don’t pass them before the first corner I will settle in third, because here it is quite difficult to overtake,” said Priaulx.
