Priaulx: “We never thought it was possible”
BMW stated ahead of the FIA World Touring Car Championship premiere that they were far from favorites for the race in Mexico. But the weekend produced three podium finishes and one pole position for BMW.
“We never thougth it was possible to achieve two podium results in Mexico. However we can’t be happy because BMW cars still have not won one race. We maximized our performance, we maximized our opportunities,” said Priaulx.
But Priaulx does not think that their current pace is enough for the rest of the season.
“We still have to find something to get to the front. To win the championship we need to be slightly faster than everyone else and at the moment we are slightly slower than everyone else,” said Priaulx.
Team mate Augusto Farfus was very close to race one winner Rickard Rydell, but had to settle for second.
“Rickard (Rydell) had a good pace throughout the whole race. At the end I was so close that I could have tried an overtaking move, but I had overheating problems and my engine was not enough performing on the straight. I’m happy with this results, because this track has never been good to BMW,” said Farfus.
