Huff takes first ever Chevrolet Cruze pole
Rob Huff claimed the first ever pole position for the new Chevrolet Cruze at Marrakech in Africa today. The Brit heads the grid with team mate Alain Menu right behind him in second. Best SEAT driver was Gabriele Tarquini in third.
Yvan Muller, who dominated the practice sessions, was fourth ahead of team mate Jordi Gené in fifth.
The Chevrolet’s are enjoying the 60 kilos off as the compensation weights have come in to force for the first time this season.
Nicola Larini confirmed the strong pace of the Chevrolets by taking sixth position on the grid for the race tomorrow.
Tiago Monteiro claimed seventh position on the grid ahead of privateer Franz Engstler who surprised everyone by being best BMW man.
Only two factory BMW’s made it to the second qualifying session – Jörg Müller and Andy Priaulx.
But neither of them got to do a full pace lap during the session. Jörg Müller had to stop on his first lap due to a mechanical problem and Priaulx never got out to drive at all.
Priaulx crashed during the first qualifying session on his final run and collected fellow BMW driver Sergio Hernandez. Both drivers went in to the barriers.
Other victims of crashes were Rickard Rydell and Augusto Farfus in the first qualifying session and they are going to start 12th and 13th respectively tomorrow.
