Subaru still considering a WTCC entry
The rumors of Subaru being on their way in to the FIA World Touring Car Championship continues. We first reported about the rumors in october last year. The rumors have grown strong again and the latest information suggests that Subaru is going to enter WTCC in 2011.
Series organiser Marcello Lotti is reported to have met with Subaru officials in Japan recently.
The reason for Subaru wanting to enter WTCC is their discontent with the World Rally Championship, WRC.
Subaru constructed a completely new WRC version of the Impreza last year only to find out that WRC is switching to the new S2000 rules in 2010, meaning that a lot of development money was to a complete waste for the Japanese manufacturer.
While Subaru pulled out of the WRC ahead of this season, they are taking part in the Nürburgring 24 hours this season with a racing version, as shown in the picture above, of the Subaru Impreza.
According to our information they could be using this race to evaluate and test parts for an eventual racing version of the Impreza to be used in the WTCC 2011.
There are forces in Japan working for a national S2000 racing championship as well. Subaru were reported to be present during a meeting in connection with the Japanese WTCC event at Okayama last year together with the big manufacturers such as Toyota and Honda.
