Tim Coronel comments on WTCC debut

This weekend at Brno will see a first in WTCC history, as Tim Coronel joins his brother Tom on the grid, making them the first set of twins to appear in the championship. “Racing together is a very special thing for us, we are really looking forward to it”, Tim and the brothers say on the eve of the meeting.

WTCC regular Tom currently leads the independents’ championship by two points, while Tim has earned his guest drive in the series thanks to his performance in the opening weekend of the SEAT Leon Eurocup at Valencia, where he finished 3rd and 4th in the two races.

Tim is the first Eurocup driver to be awarded a guest drive this season, and unsurprisingly is looking forward to making his debut.

“First, I did the shakedown with Tom’s car. That felt like a real honour. After that, I drove my own racecar. I didn’t have a frame of reference, so it is difficult to judge how things were going, but I had the impression that it went pretty well”,

“Compared to the SEAT Leon from the Eurocup, the main differences in the WTCC car are a quicker gearshift, more precise steering and better balance. Moreover, driving with tyres that have been warmed up was a new experience for me. You have grip right away, so you can be quick right away!”

In addition to the two WTCC races, Tim will also take in a pair of Eurocup races, and acknowledges it is a busy schedule, but “racing is the best thing there is.”

Meanwhile Tom rejoins the series after competing at Le Mans last weekend, where he finished fifth in GT2, and best non-Ferrari, in the Spyker C8 Laviolette.

“Le Mans was fantastic, but now, I am really eager to go for it at Brno. At Valencia, I won the independents’ class for the first time this season and I am now also leading the points’ standings in this championship. The characteristics of the Brno circuit aren’t ideal for us, but of course, I will do my utmost. Competing in a race together with Tim is just great!”
