Huff fastest in final practice
Chevrolet’s Robert Huff topped the time sheets in the second practice session at Porto, heading Augusto Farfus and teammate Alain Menu. The British driver set the fastest lap of the weekend so far, a 2:09.771, becoming the first man to drop below the 2:10 mark.
Huff’s blistering lap came with just over a minute remaining; as he set ‘green’, fastest sector times all round the circuit to top the session.
The Brazilian BMW driver, who has been quickest in both Friday’s test session and Saturday’s first practice, trailed the Cruze by almost six tenths, with Menu a further tenth behind.
Behind the second Chevrolet came a trio of SEATs, with Gabriele Tarquini the fastest ahead of Rickard Rydell in fifth and Tiago Monteiro in sixth.
Andy Priaulx was seventh, followed by Nicola Larini, Jordi Gene and Jörg Müller to round out the top ten.
Tom Coronel in twelfth was the fastest Independent driver, just ahead of Stefano D’Aste, while James Thompson was again five seconds off the pace in 23rd position, as the Lada Priora’s debut weekend continues.
The session was interrupted by a red flag with twelve minutes remaining when the BMW’s of Alessandro Zanardi and Sergio Hernandez came together at Turn 16, after the Italian had gone into the tyre wall, only to be collected by his teammate, putting the pair out for the remainder of practice.
