Augusto Farfus wins red flagged race

Augusto Farfus Jr won the second race at Porto which got red flagged and restarted, just as the first race. The race was red flagged and later restarted due to a crash of Alain Menu. Farfus was able to hold his lead during the three final laps after the restart.
“The weekend has been fantastic! A big thanks to BMW Motorsport,” said Farfus.

Yvan Muller finished second after being let past by team mates Rickard Rydell, who finished third, and Jordi Gené, who finished fourth.

The incident that red flagged the race three laps from the end involved Alain Menu, Franz Engstler and Félix Porteiro.

Engstler tried to pass Porteiro by moving in from the outside, but Porteiro had the inside and after light contact between the two, Engstler had to go wide and got a slow exit.

Menu caught up with Engstler and tried to pass him on the outside as Engstler defended the inside. Menu touched the rear right of Engstler’s BMW which sent the Chevrolet driver in to the wall, destroying his Cruze.

Another incident earlier in the race sent four cars out of the race and brought the safety car out.

Rob Huff passed his team mate Nicola Larini. Previous race winner Gabriele Tarquini then followed Huff up along side Larini. But Larini continued to turn in which resulted in the both going in to the tyre wall and retiring.

The incident caused another, bigger, incident between privateer SEAT drivers Mehdi Bennani and Tom Boardman. Bennani missed his braking point, forcing him to take a wide line between the two stranded cars of Larini and Tarquini.

As Bennani rejoined the track, he came straight out in the path of Boardman, resulting in yet another two retirements.

Other than those incidents, the field was rather calm. Tiago Monteiro finished fifth ahead of Rob Huff and Andy Priaulx.

Jörg Müller was eight ahead of double privateer race winner Stefano D’Aste. Alessandro Zanardi rounded off top ten.
