SEAT protest against turbo rules to be heard
Tomorrow another chapter will be added to the already to thick book about the “SEAT turbo” thriller. The International Court of Appeal will hold a hearing regarding the protest SEAT filed against the decision of the World Motor Sport Council from June 24th 2009.
The immediate cause for this chapter started at Marrakech, where the world found out that the SEAT turbo’s were allowed to have a 0,4 bar margin on their turbo pressure, so they could effectively run with 2,9.
After the race in Pau, on may 22nd, the FIA changed the rules for the SEAT’s to a maximum of 2,7 bar, without tolerance, and pressure spikes during gear shifts allowed provided they last less than one second.
Only three days after the decision by the FIA had been announced, SEAT submitted a request to the WMSC to cancel these two decisions. However, during a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on June 24th, the request was rejected.
SEAT Sport decided to protest against this decision. Now the International Court of Appeal will have the final word in this matter. The hearing will start at 10h00 CET on June 16th, but a decision is not expected before the day after that in the afternoon.
