SEAT’s “turbo” appeal declined

As TouringCarTimes reported last week, SEAT sport’s appeal concerning the turbo pressure of the León TDI’s has been discussed. After meeting in Paris on the 16th of July, the FIA International Court of Appeal declared the appeal lodged by the Spanish National Autority on behalf of SEAT Sport to be inadmissible. This decision should be the last act of what has been a very hot topic throughout the season.

The Bureau of the Touring Car Commission had decided earlier in the season that the rules concerning the turbo pressure had to be changed.

This was done through two decisions, one adopted in February and one adopted in May, after the clarification asked by BMW Team Germany. SEAT Sport had asked the World Motor Sport Council to cancel the two decisions, but the request was rejected.

The Spanish manufacturer had then appealed the decision to the International Court of Appeal, who decided, as mentioned before, that the appeal is inadmissible, as it didn’t comply to the prescripted procedures, as no written confirmation was issued by the Spanish National Authority.

This final decision should mark the end of the discussions concerning the much debated topic, as it looks like the rules will not be changed, at least for this year.

Chevrolet and BMW representatives were present at the reunion: they were supposed to explain their arguments on the matter, but the discussions never even started, as it was decided that the substance of the appeal didn’t need to be examined.

The turbo pressure of the León TDIs remains at 2.7 bar, as decided after the Pau event.
