WTCC wants to go to the States

The organization of the World Touring Car Championship is planning to hold a round of the 2011 championship in the United States. After expending the series outside Europe to Okayama (Japan) and Marrakech (Morocco), the WTCC wants expend their world championship further.

“In 2011 we want to have a race in the United States”, Marcello Lotti said to our colleagues from Motorsport Total. “The market in the USA is very interesting for us and we’re sure there will be much interest, especially in the South West.”

On which track the races will be held is not certain yet. “We’re still at the beginning of the planning”, Lotti comments. For now there are three tracks the WTCC is looking at; Laguna Seca, Phoenix and the Homestead Miami Speedway.

The organizers are also looking to hold a race in Russia in 2011.
