Bad weekend for Felix Porteiro

Independents championship leader Felix Porteiro had one of his worst weekends of the season, with scoring only ten points. Only in Pau he scored less points, where he only finished one race in the points and left France with four points. Nevertheless, the Spaniard still leads the championship with a 16 points margin and his team is confident he will do better the next race in Oschersleben, Germany.

“Brands Hatch was not a good weekend at all for us”, Proteam team owner Valmiro Presenzini Mattoli said. “We knew we had a good car, but when it came to qualifying we didn’t perform at our best. Félix could have been a bit faster and we knew he had a good chance of getting into Q2, which we narrowly missed.”

During the first race things didn’t go much better. Despite a decent start, his luck soon ran out. “Then we had that accident at the first corner, which ruined Fèlix’s race, as of course the car was not working perfectly, both aerodinamics-wise and setup-wise”, Presenzini Mattoli continues. “As a result, Porteiro finished 4th but we knew he could have won.”

“The second race showed how quick our car was. Apart from Michelisz, we had the best laptime of the Independents’ class, but it was just too hard to overtake and so he had to settle for 4th.

“We’re really sorry because we worked so hard and then everything came down to good or bad luck, but that’s racing and we just have to accept it.”

Despite the bad luck, there were also positive thoughts after the weekend. “Félix is still leading the championship and the next race is in Oschersleben, a good track for BMW, where we expect to perform well.

“Postiglione was a bit underperforming this weekend, but we’re sure he’s going to come back in stronger than before after the summer holidays.”
