BMW leaves F1 but stays in touring cars

All eyes of the motorsport world were on BMW this morning as they during a press conference announced their retirement from Formula One. It was also speculated that a retirement from the World Touring Car Championship was going to come. But BMW remains committed to touring cars.

“BMW will continue its programs in a number of motor sports series: BMW will appear on the starting grid in the touring car series…” a press release stated.

BMW have hinted several times in the past that their WTCC program was in danger, but seemingly the efforts are going to remain.

BMW are currently fielding five BMW 320si in the WTCC for Augusto Farfus, Jörg Müller, Andy Priaulx, Alessandro Zanardi and Sergio Hernández.
