Proteam seeks commitment from BMW

The privateer BMW team Proteam Motorsport seeks an official commitment from BMW on the World Touring Car Championship. The German manufacturer recently withdrew from Formula One but are yet to announce their intentions for WTCC.
“We hope that these good intentions are going to turn in to an official confirmation, for the sake of the WTCC,” said team owner Valmiro Presenzini Mattoli to TouringCarTimes.com.

When the German manufacturer left F1, a press release stated that they are going to focus their efforts on, among other disciplines, touring cars.

“BMW will continue its programs in a number of motor sports series: BMW will appear on the starting grid in the touring car series…” the press release stated.

But so far BMW has not stated officially whether they are going to continue next year in the WTCC.

BMW Motorsport boss Mario Theissen has several times during the season spoken about BMW’s discontent with the rules of WTCC.

“In my opinion the situation is not sustainable and we are presently examining our WTCC commitment very critically,” said Theissen earlier this year.

Proteam owner Presenzini Mattoli hopes that the German manufacturer stays.

“The WTCC and the whole motorsport industry needs a great manufacturer like BMW,” said Presenzini Mattoli.
