Andy Priaulx would like to join DTM
Multiple WTCC champion and BMW driver Andy Priaulx is eyeing other series for the future. If BMW decides to switch to DTM, the Brit would be more than happy.
“Oh yeah, for sure. Driving a faster car with more downforce,” said Priaulx to Autosport.
Priaulx drove an Petit Le Mans race last weekend in the fast BMW M3 GT2, something that gave the Brit a taste for more.
“It is nice to vary. It is really important to take yourself out of your comfort zone because you have to think out of the box and that makes you better at what you do,” said Priaulx.
While Priaulx has mainly done sprint touring car racing, he would like to extend his experience in endurance racing.
“I want to keep improving, and you see the likes of Allan McNish here and he has done well for himself and that’s somewhere that I would like my career to go,” said Priaulx.
One of the main reasons that both Priaulx and BMW have been looking a lot at alternatives for WTCC recently is the inconsistency of the rules.
“I enjoy world touring cars, but I don’t enjoy the constant rule changes. In the last couple of years that has been really against me and BMW,” said Priaulx.
But if BMW decides to continue in the WTCC, Priaulx will not be unhappy.
“DTM would be great, GT racing would be great as well. But I would also be happy to stay in the World Touring Car Championship. It is really tough. The top 15 guys are really close,” said Priaulx.
