Three new Japanese BMW privateers
The World Touring Car Championship race in Japan gets strengthened by three new Japanese drivers. They are all going to drive for privateer BMW teams. Wiechers-Sport is joined by Seiji Ara, Proteam Motorsport is joined by Nobutero Taniguchi and Engstler Motorsport is joined by Masaki Kano.
The Wiechers-Sport driver Ara is 34 years old and has previously done a lot of endurance races.
His best results so far include winning the LMP1 class in the Le Mans race of 2004. This year Ara has driven in the Super GT championship in Japan.
The Proteam Motorsport driver Taniguchi has also driven in the Japanese Super GT championship, notching up four podium finishes so far this year.
The Engstler Motorsport driver Kano has driven in the Asian Touring Car Championship previously. The Japanese finished third in division one of the 2008 season.
