Chevrolet could expand with Muller and Giovanardi
While BMW and SEAT are considering to reduce their teams, Chevrolet is looking to expand the team for 2010.
“The only way to be competitive in the manufacturer’s championship is to have as many cars as possible,” said Chevrolet Motorsport boss Eric Neve to Autosport.
“This has been on the radar for some time, and we’ve put a lot of effort into the plan for next year,” said Neve.
Reports say that we could see as many as five Chevrolet Cruze in the World Touring Car Championship next year, compared to the three of 2009.
Alain Menu and Rob Huff have already been re-signed for 2010. New to the team could be Yvan Muller and Fabrizio Giovanardi.
Reports say that Muller likely to not be a part of the SEAT team next year and that the Frenchman is very close to finalizing a deal with Chevrolet. Muller was seen in the paddocks during the BTCC finale together with GM representatives.
According to Autosport, Fabrizio Giovanardi could become Muller’s team mate at Chevrolet, thanks to the GM-connections via Vauxhall. But the Italian is not commenting any of his plans for 2010.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know,” said Giovanardi to crash.net.
