Ford evaluating WTCC entry

Ford could be entering the World Touring Car Championship in 2011 when the new engine rules comes in to force. The American manufacturer has already committed to the World Rally Championship, a championship that is going to use the same engines as WTCC in 2011.

The “universal” FIA engine is going to be 1.6 liter and turbo charged. This makes it easier for manufacturers involved in, for example, WRC to commit to WTCC and vice versa.

Ford is according to Autosport reported to have done a complete evaluation of a WTCC program with the new Focus model.

The WTCC organisation earlier confirmed that a race in the USA is planned for 2011, another step to attract new manufacturers like Ford.
