The Touring Car Bureau faces termination
TouringCarTimes has received information that the debated Touring Car Bureau of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is going to be closed down. The Touring Car Bureau currently handles the rules, dispensations, weight changes and more for the WTCC and the S2000 regulations.
The Bureau has recently suffered from a lot of criticism from manufacturers, teams and competitors after frequent rule changes.
The debate of the Touring Car Bureau ran especially hot earlier this year over the diesel engine turbo boost pressure and the rev limit during downshifting.
According to our information the bureau is suggested to be replaced by two committees, to give all concerned in the WTCC a better overview of what is being decided regarding the rules.
One of the committees is going to handle homologation of the cars while the other is going to handle the performance equalization between the cars.
The homologation committee is going to handle the introduction of each new model in to the S2000 regulations. After that the performance committee is going to take over, handling areas like aerodynamics, weights, RWD vs FWD and more.
The final composition of each committee has not been finalized, according to our information, but is most likely going to consist of three persons per committee, selected by the FIA.
Stay tuned for more information!
