Zanardi wins Venice Marathon
World Touring Car Championship driver Alessandro Zanardi won the Venice Marathon in the “Diversely able” category.
“It was a great day for the ‘cyclist’ who is in me! I am extremely proud of this victory. First of all because, together with the friends of the Venice Marathon, we made good things for charities,” said Zanardi.
This was the Italian’s first victory since he began competing with handbike
Zanardi was more than pleased with his pace during the race.
“I set a new record for this race, covering the 42.196 km in 1h13:56. I actually reached the halfway point in less than 34 minutes, at the average speed of 39 kmh, which was quite an outstanding pace,” Zanardi said.
The Italian is hoping to continue his good trend for the coming WTCC race in Japan.
“Tomorrow I will close the bag for Japan because on Tuesday I will set off to Okayama: it would be nice to keep this positive trend, perhaps with a good podium… I do not dare asking too much, I would be happy with a few little points!” said Zanardi.
