Augusto Farfus led a pole to the flag race in Okayama, to stay within 13 points of Gabriele Tarquini going into the season ender.
Andy Priaulx finishes second, with Yvan Muller third scoring the most of the championship contenders this weekend.
With no safety car start for this race, despite being equally wet – the BMW of Farfus was able to hold on to it’s lead ahead of the SEAT armada behind him.
Jorg Muller charged through from seventh on the grid, but contacted Tiago Monteiro’s SEAT spinning him around and causing championship leader Gabriele Tarquini to again slide into the gravel and lose track position.
With many cars sliding off at the next corner, the grid was shuffled up greatly, with two Lada’s in the top eight, and both Menu & Larini’s Chevrolet’s also up into the points.
The wet condition’s saw many cars spinning in the race, but no safety car’s were forthcoming, meaning Farfus was able to hold on to a protected lead with the BMW of Andy Priaulx sitting behind him in second place guarding his rear, as Yvan Muller took a protective approach and remained behind to claim the final podium position.
Rickard Rydell’s valiant drive from last to sixth went unrewarded, as he was asked along with team mate Jordi Gené to fall back, again benefitting the Chevrolet of Rob Huff in the process. This was to give Gabriele Tarquini 7th in the final order, which means he goes into the championship finalé with a slim two point lead as opposed to being tied with team mate Yvan Muller.
Gabriele Tarquini leads the championship for SEAT with 115pts, from Yvan Muller with 113pts, and Augusto Farfus with 102pts – the three remaining in the title hunt with 20 points in the offering at the famous Macau circuit in three weeks.
