Farfus continues on top at Macau

Augusto Farfus has clearly got the speed at Macau as the Brazilian dominated the first free practice session. He lapped the track in 2:31.228, almost half a second faster than his team mate Jörg Müller.

Chasing the BMW’s in this session was Chevrolet’s Rob Huff. The Brit was only 0.032 seconds behind Müller.

Alessandro Zanardi showed strong form in his BMW 320si by being fourth fastest ahead of reigning champion Yvan Muller in fifth.

Muller’s team mate and championship rival Gabriele Tarquini was sixth fastest, eight tenths behind his other championship rival Farfus.

SEAT took five places of the top ten places with Tiago Monteiro, Rickard Rydell and Jordi Gené in seventh, eight and ninth respectively. Andy Priaulx rounded off top ten.

As usual at Macau there were several incidents around the twisty and demanding street circuit. Lei Kit Meng, Stefano D’Aste, Henry Ho, Franz Engstler, Takayuki Aoki and Kirill Ladygin all visited the barriers.

Ladygin’s accident was the worst and the session was stopped and not resumed after his crash.
