Monteiro eyes switch to Super GT
SEAT driver Tiago Monteiro has tested the Nismo Super GT car in Japan, as he eyes up various opportunities as the possibility of racing with SEAT in the 2010 WTCC is growing ever less likely.
Speaking to Autosport, Monteiro said of the Super GT test:
“The car is really impressive and it is a works team, so they are very professional, I was really impressed with everything.”
On his career options for 2010:
“My main objective is to try to stay with SEAT in the WTCC,” he said. “But we still don’t know what is happening. But there might be opportunities in the Le Mans Series, and I am also interested in the new GT1 World Championship.”
Oreca, who ran the SEAT cars for Tiago Monteiro and 2008 champion Yvan Muller in the WTCC this year, will be competing in the Le Mans Series again, which Monteiro has already had race experience.
The GT1 World Championship’s first season will also open up a number of drives, as a full field of cars is expected – yet few driver announcements have been confirmed so far.
SEAT have still not yet confirmed whether they will be competing in the WTCC in 2010, or if they are, as to what size their field will be as they’ve already confirmed Oreca will not be used again. With rivals BMW downsizing to two cars, expectations are the current champions will follow suit.
