‘Historic moment’ for Zengõ and Michelisz
Zengõ Motorsport have announced that in a “historical moment for Hungarian motorsport”, Norbert Michelisz will drive in the 2010 WTCC. Reigning SEAT Eurocup Champion Michelisz will pilot a SEAT Leon TDI in his first full WTCC season, after previous one off appearances at the Japanese and British rounds of the World Championship.
The Zengõ statement says that two of the Leon TDI’s destined for Brazil will run under the Zengõ Denison Motorsport banner. Michelisz’s teammate is yet to be announced, but indications are that it should be one of the former works SEAT line-up.
Michelisz becomes the third WTCC driver to be confirmed in a SEAT Leon TDI after the announcements of Tom Coronel and Michel Nykjaer in SUNRED Engineering run machines.
The 25-year-old Hungarian made his WTCC debut at Okayama in 2008 and also competed at Brands Hatch in 2009, where he impressed onlookers by becoming the first SEAT Leon Eurocup guest driver to make it through to the second qualifying session.
Michelisz came third, behind James Thompson and Franz Engstler, at the European Touring Car Cup in Braga in October, after claiming pole and winning race one. A former Hungarian Suzuki Swift and Renault Clio Cup Champion, Michelisz took five wins on his way to the SEAT Leon Eurocup title in 2009 with Zengõ Motorsport.
