BMW confirms world engine for 2011

BMW has already started development on the new world engine ahead of the 2011 season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
“The engine is under development and will be available for the current car [320si E90],” said Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport boss, to Autosport.

While BMW is developing the new engine, it is no guarantee for that they are going to be represented as a works team next year.

“Our commitment to customer teams already requires preparation for the new regulations, so there is no need for a quick decision on [our] WTCC [future],” said Theissen.

The WTCC is scheduled to change to the new world engine, which is a 1.6 liter turbo charged petrol engine, next year.
