Disappointing WTCC premiere for BMW

BMW left the FIA World Touring Car Championship premiere with Augusto Farfus in sixth and Andy Priaulx seventh in the championship.
“Overall I’m disappointed with this outcome of the first race weekend of the season,” said Priaulx.

Farfus finished sixth in both races, despite having shown a strong form in the earlier practice sessions.

“The car felt great over the whole weekend and our pace in the races was okay. However, our overall performance obviously isn’t yet good enough to battle it out at the very front of the field,” said Farfus.

Priaulx finished fifth in the first race but had to retire the second race on the first lap after a collision with race winner Gabriele Tarquini.

“I had a great start in race two, but then this collision with Tarquini happened. It was just a touch, but enough to damage my car and throw me out of the race,” said Priaulx.

Team boss Bart Mampaey is already deep in to the preparations for the coming race.

“This has been a difficult start to the season. We will look into this and keep on working,” said Mampaey.
