Lights to flag win for Tarquini at Marrakech

Gabriele Tarquini won the first FIA World Touring Car Championship race of the day at Marrakech in Morocco. The Italian held the lead from start to finish. Rob Huff claimed second after having to drive very defensively to keep Tiago Monteiro behind him.

Monteiro was fighting hard with team mate Jordi Gené at the start of the race, a battle resulting in Monteiro dropping to fourth and Gené to 19th.

WTCC newcomer Fredy Barth made a cracking start from eight on the grid to third during the first lap.

Barth was fighting with Huff for second place in the beginning of the race. The both made contact, sending Huff in to a big slide. Huff was able to save the slide while Barth dropped to fourth.

Tom Coronel claimed fifth ahead of Yvan Muller and Norbert Michelisz. Andy Priaulx fought his way past Alain Menu and finished eight, securing pole position for the second race for the BMW-driver.

Augusto Farfus rounded off top ten.
