Priaulx wins eventful race ahead of Muller
Andy Priaulx won the second race, a race reduced to just two laps or real racing due to a number of safety car sessions.
“Lets say this was lucky, but you make your own luck. I was a bit on the limit, but really great for everyone at BMW,” said Priaulx.
Priaulx started from pole thanks to the reversed grid from the first race where he finished second. Yvan Muller finished a close second and was really putting pressure on Priaulx on the final laps.
Priaulx came close to putting his BMW in to the walls on the last lap, trying to pull up a gap from Muller. Fortunately for the Brit, he managed to save it and crossed the line 0.8 seconds clear from the Chevrolet driver.
The safety car was brought out on the first lap after a big crash involving Rob Huff, Fredy Barth, Darryl O’Young, Harry Vaulkhard and Sergio Hernandez.
Huff and Barth clashed which then caused the other drivers mentioned above to crash after taking avoiding action.
The second safety car session was caused by Alain Menu and Augusto Farfus. The both were side by side out of turn four when they made contact and slammed in to the barriers, ending the race for both drivers.
When the cars were cleared, there was only two laps left of the race. Tom Coronel finished third ahead of Tiago Monteiro and Freddy Barth. Reigning champion finished sixth ahead of Michel Nykjaer and local hero Mehdi Bennani.
