Pernía to drive fourth Chevrolet at Monza [updated]

Argentinean Leonel Pernía is going to drive a fourth Chevrolet Cruze during the FIA World Touring Car Championship race at Monza.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to race in the world’s top championship for touring cars and with a front-running team like Chevrolet,” said Pernía.

“This is an unexpected and wonderful chance for me and I hope to contribute to team’s success in Monza.”

Pernía is the vice-champion of the Argentinean TC2000 champion, a championship he has raced in since 2006.

“I know the level in the WTCC is very high but I am confident that my TC2000 experience will be very useful,” said Pernía.

The Chevrolet team has taken in Pernía in order to have a stronger shot at the 2010 WTCC title.

“It is a privilege for us to have Leonel with us at such a key event as Monza. In our strategy towards conquering the WTCC title this year, it is very useful to have the possibility to enter a fourth car in selected events and to entrust them to drivers such as Pernía, who has a proven pedigree in touring car racing,” said Chevrolet Europe Motorsport boss Eric Néve.

Update: The fourth car comes from Chevrolet Team Sweden. This means that Viktor Hallrup is not going to take part in the Swedish Touring Car Championship race at Karlskoga.
