First compensation weights announced

Next weekend’s WTCC round at Monza sees the compensation weight system coming into place for the first time in 2010. Under the system based upon the best lap times of cars from the previous two rounds, the SEAT León TDI and Chevrolet Cruze will both gain an additional 40kg, while the Chevrolet Lacetti will lose 20kg, with the BMW 320si remaining the same weight.

To devise the weight adjustments, the best lap times of the two fastest cars of each in qualifying and both races in Brazil and Morocco are averaged, to establish a base lap time for each model. The calculation is based upon a three event rolling average, coming into play after the first two rounds.

Due the majority of the race being spent behind the safety car, it was decided on the basis of stewards’ advice to discount the lap times et during the second race in Marrakech.

The SEAT León TDI was identified as the reference model. SEAT, through Gabriele Tarquini have won two out of the four WTCC races so far held this season.
