Menu given suspended penalty for contact
Alain Menu has been given a five place grid drop, suspended over three races for contact with Michelisz in race one which ended both drivers charges.
Whilst battling with Norbert Michelisz, who had managed to get in front of the swiss driver by cutting the chicane at the start which he was yet to serve a penalty for, the Hungarian rookie was knocked sideways at the first corner by Menu which caused rear bodywork damage to the Zengo-Dension SEAT.
Menu faired little better, damaging to the bonnet – the lid came up and covered the windscreen – forcing Menu to slowly return to the pits. As a result he would start the next race from the back of the grid.
Menu had a good run in the second race, carving his way through the pack to finish 9th and at least pick up two points.
The stewards assessed that Menu’s manouvre on Michelisz was too aggressive, and gave him a five place grid drop penalty, which will be enacted if he causes a similar incident in the next three rounds of the championship.
