Vaulkhard not thinking about title, out for more wins
Bamboo Engineering driver Harry Vaulkhard’s not thinking about the championship, as the Englishman closes to within 9 points of Yokohama Trophy leader Hernandez after Monza.
Harry’s focus is on more class wins in the Lacetti, TouringCarTimes caught up with Harry after last weekend’s race at Monza.
“I’ve been waiting for a podium for a long time in British championship, and that’s been my goal so far in World Touring Car, so to get it so soon in the season and to also get the first Bamboo win as well, I’m really happy about” said Vaulkhard.
“It’s a bit of a shame not to win on the road as I think we had the pace to do that anyway, just Bennani got a bit of an advantage at the start when he cut the chicane.”
Bennani as a result was awarded a drive through penalty in a post race stewards meeting, which gave Bamboo Engineering their first victory.
Harry however, isn’t getting caught up in aspirations to take the Yokohama Independents Trophy yet, won by Tom Coronel last year.
“For me, I’m not thinking about the independents’ championship…I’m just going to try and go out and win races really, and just be as fast as I can. I guess if you go out and win races you end up hand in hand with the championship as well”.
Bamboo Engineering are running with the last generation of Chevrolet Lacetti’s, before the RML team switched to the larger Cruze model in 2009. Harry takes note the cars are mostly unchanged:
“We’ve done a couple of little in-house updates, nothing massive – just little bits to keep it kind of alive, but still in essence it’s still a 2008 car with no major updates from when RML ran it”
Bamboo Engineering are now sitting second in the Yokohama Independents Team Trophy in only their first season – Harry comments on the WTCC:
“I absolutely love the series, I think it’s really good, the competition’s really tough – it’s really professionally run and it’s a great series to be involved with.”
