Tarquini takes pole in rain affected session

Gabriele Tarquini has bounced back from an engine failure in practice to secure pole position for the first race at Zolder.

Making it into the second session, Tarquini benefitted from a sudden sprinkle of rain in the middle of the second qualifying segment. With BMW leaving it late to come out, both Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus’s qualifying was jeapordised – with the two starting from the back of the top 10.

Effectively a one lap shot, Tarquini’s 1:38.265 was good enough for pole position, with team mate Jordi Gené lining up alongside.

The three Chevrolet’s line-up behind the SR-Sport pair, with Menu ahead of Muller, then Huff.

Norbert Michelisz was the top rookie challenge driver in sixth, and Pierre-Yves Corthals the fastest independent.
