BMW not satisfied with 2011 engine rules
BMW Motorsport boss Mario Theissen is not satisfied with the current development of the engine rules ahead of 2011.
“We are evaluating how many cars will use the new engine, or what the FIA decides if not everyone uses it,” said Theissen to Autosport.
The new 1.6 liter turbo charged “world engine” is going to be introduced next year for the WTCC.
The current naturally aspirated engines could be allowed to carry on next year with some kind of performance equalization, something Theissen and BMW does not want to happen.
“It is not certain that the new engine will be mandatory, and this could influence our decision,” said Theissen.
BMW are yet to decide their level of commitment for WTCC next year.
“Our form of engagement is open and will not be decided in the next weeks – it could be anything between a full works team and a purely customer involvement,” said Theissen.
