Tom Coronel voted best independent of last season

Tom Coronel was votes by TouringCarTimes readers as the best independent driver of the 2009 season out of the BTCC, WTCC, DTM & STCC.

Coronel faced fierce competition from BTCC champion Colin Turkington in the category, but came out on top with 49% of the vote (Turkington on 45%). Both drivers will do battle on the same track this weekend at Portimao.

“You can hardly imagine and describe the feeling to be on the podium with the cup in your hands after a race. I got the same feeling when I heard that in the TouringCarTimes election I got two awards.” said Coronel on receiving the award.

“Because there was no jury, but readers of TouringCarTimes that voted for me, my public. Racing without public is no race, and a victory without public is no victory. To become not only the best privateer in the WTCC, but also being elected by the readers of TouringCarTimes as the best independent driver in all categories means a lot for my motivation to do my utmost in 2010.”
