Monteiro takes pole at home race

Tiago Monteiro has secured pole position for his home race at Portimao, ahead of Chevrolet’s Yvan Muller & BMW’s Augusto Farfus in third.

Monteiro, currently fifth in the championship, set a quick first lap in the second section of qualifying to secure pole position, after a scare earlier in the qualifying session when his car was damaged after contact with Andy Priaulx’s BMW.

Championship leader Yvan Muller will start second for the first race in his Chevrolet Cruze, with Augusto Farfus third for BMW Team RBM.

Gabriele Tarquini was fourth, and Norbert Michelisz qualified as the top rookie challenge driver in sixth.

In the Yokohama Independents Trophy, Colin Turkington has taken the class pole after qualifying in tenth place overall in the West Surrey Racing BMW.
