Muller leads Chevrolet 1-2-3 in qualifying
Yvan Muller has taken pole position for Chevrolet, leading a 1-2-3 on the grid, with EBay Motors driver Colin Turkington 4th.
In a very bizarre qualifying session, which saw 11 cars compete in the final segment, as opposed to the usual ten – EBay Motors driver Colin Turkington looked set for a surprise pole position in only his second WTCC race this season, before Yvan Muller swept to the top of times.
Yvan was shortly followed by two of his Chevrolet team mates, Huff and Menu respectively – which displaced the BMW of Turkington down to fourth.
Gabriele Tarquini was fifth fastest, and the fastest of the SEAT drivers, whilst Norbert Michelisz was the fastest rookie challenge driver and the only one in the top ‘eleven’ second session.
Tom Coronel was the extra car in the session, after Franz Engstler – one of the other BMW’s running the same weight as Colin Turkington, snuck into a surprise tenth.
Due to a non-championship car running in the event (the nationally homologated Volvo C30 of Robert Dahlgren), the FIA had decided to allow the top eleven cars proceed to the second qualifying session this weekend.
