Turkington and EBay Motors celebrate ‘great day’
Colin Turkington’ s second appearance in the WTCC this year was a resounding success, as the team finished on the podium twice & took both wins in the independents’ class.
Colin Turkington said:
“I’m really pleased, it was a really big weekend for me and the team. Although we were a little bit lighter than some of the other cars we still had to perform and get up the front. We ran quicker and quicker all weekend and pulled in the results. It was fantastic for all of us and we are all over the moon, here’s to the next race in the Czech Republic.”
Dick Bennets, Team Principal commented:
“What a great day! We were more than happy with just the one podium after the first race, but to then go one better and to score two Independent wins and a second and third overall is great for all the eBay Motors WSR team plus we have also scored some valuable points towards the Manufacturers’ Championship for BMW.”
The EBay Motors/WSR team is only scheduled to compete at the next round at Brno at the moment. Clashes with the BTCC calendar means the team is certain to not compete at Oschersleben & Valencia, but could return for the flyaway rounds at the season’s end
“It’s been frustrating early in year for sure cos we couldn’t find sponsors for the British or World (championships), and now EBay Motors have come onboard just for the three European rounds,” explained Dick Bennetts to TouringCarTimes
“Maybe they’ll have a change of heart and support us in Japan and Macau, but otherwise we’re working hard to find other sponsors to do Japan & Macau.”
Colin Turkington is now the highest placed independent in the overall drivers championship with 34 points in 12th position, and lies second in the independents’ championship just 12 points behind the 2008 Yokohama Independents’ champion, Sergio Hernández.
