Argentina and China set for 2011 WTCC calendar

The 2011 FIA World Touring Car Championship calendar, featuring 12 races, is going to be submitted to the FIA World Motorsport Council on the 10th of September.
“Most of them are traditional venues for our championship, although Suzuka will replace Okayama for the Race of Japan,” championship promoter Marcello Lotti said.

Two new countries are going to be on the draft for the 2011 calendar: Argentina and Mainland China.

“These are strategic additions for us, not only because they open new and interesting markets to our manufacturers, but also because the events in Buenos Aires and at the Guangdong International Circuit will be organised together with the respective national Touring Car Championships: TC2000 and CTCC. And this fits perfectly to our aim to establish close relationships between the FIA World Championship and the national ones,” said Lotti.

While most of the current venues of the WTCC calendar looks set to be on the calendar, the Moroccan event is still uncertain.

“We wish to include the Race of Morocco in the calendar again. And after the meetings held at the FIA to investigate what happened earlier this year, Morocco’s National Sporting Authority has drafted a serious plan to prevent this from happening again. However, before going any further we need to receive a written confirmation from the event promoter,” said Lotti.
